CapsLax Handles Wakefield With Ease

Friday night’s game was a solid second outing for the boy’s varsity lacrosse team, winning 12 vs. 6 versus conference rival Wakefield. On many levels, however, the team took a slight step backwards over the emotional, near-perfect game they played against Chapel Hill last Tuesday night. In the first half the offense was frustrated, and held to only 5 goals in the first half. Then the offensive erupted for 6 goals early in the 3rd period effectively putting the game out of reach. In the second half, the defense dug in, holding Wakefield to zero goals in the 3rd period, and only two in the 4th period.

Junior Dane Angell led all scorers with four goals, which I believe may be his career high as a member of the Varsity CapsLax program. Let’s give a shout out to Oliver Fleming who scored his first two goals of the season. Other scores came from Sam Cramer (2), Sonny Creech (1), Mitchell Dupere (2), and Dillon Pitts (1).

Since midway through the 3rd period the outcome of the game seemed no longer in doubt, the coaching staff was able to get a good amount of playing time for many non starters, allowing an opportunity to rest many starters in preparation for Saturday night’s endowment game versus a talented and well coached Durham Riverside team @ 6:00 PM. Remember this endowment game is paid admission and serves as a fund raiser for the CapsLax program. Let's hope the forecast of heavy rain holds off until after the game is over.
