JV Volleyball Team- Finishes Strong

Congratulations go out to Coach Enid Badillo, Coach Joy Daniels, and the girls team on a great finish to the season.  Since the last report, the JV team ended the season with four great wins to top the conference with a 13 win/1 loss in-conference record (16/2 overall!) .  This is a fantastic season effort!

On October 2, the Caps hosted the Leesville Pride at Holliday Gym.  After dropping the first game 19-25, the Caps rallied behind Neely Whittington's serve to win the second 25-19.  Broughton then won the rubber game 25-19 when super defensive passing let Ryan Haar and Rachel Byrd get the short middle set/spike going.

On October 4th, the team made the trip up US-1 to face the Wake Forest-Rolesville Cougars.  The first game was the closest of the season with the Caps pulling it out in extra points 28-26.  Broughton came together as a team and a Caitlyn Cooley serving blitz to win the second game 25-12.

October 8, in a precursor to the varsity Senior Night, the Caps took to the Holliday Gym floor against the Enloe Eagles.  Broughton won the first game 25/13.  This was a great team performance with some great outside hits by Marisa Buonpane and Martha Vann Alford.  Ryan Haar mixed it up with some great sets and some short tap winners.  In the second game, Coach Enid went to the bench and got everyone in for some sound playing time (HOORAY)!  This was a great effort by all, but Brandi Russell really stepped up with some solid blocks!  The Caps took a close one, again in extra points, 29-27.

A great Senior night celebration and varsity game followed with the Varsity also scoring a super win against Enloe.  Congratulations to the Seniors and good luck in the Cap 8 tournament!

The next day, in the final JV game of the season, the Caps trucked back to Wake Forest, this time to face the Heritage High School Huskies.  In the first game the Caps really had their serves dialed in with Caitlyn Cooley, Ryan Haar, Neely Whittington, and Martha Vann Alford all getting great strings of winners.  The Caps took a speedy game one 25-11.  Like Enloe the day before, Game 2 also saw a lot of changes in the Caps line up.  This made for an exciting match, and Broughton prevailed 25-19.  Sarah Coffey had some great hits and Juliana Anderson went high for several great blocks.

Someone told me they don't track "conference champions" in JV sports... but I do... and the JV Caps won.  Seriously, it has been a great season in every regard.  The team has played well and shown sound improvement as the year went on.  Some of the individual improvement has been simply outstanding.

Congratulations ladies, it was fun to watch.  rH
