Volleyball: Lady Caps Continue Their Winning Ways! Big Upset Over Wakefield and now ranked 5th in the state 4A standings!

The Broughton Varsity Volleyball team had an amazing week with victories over Wakefield and Enloe!

The earlier match of the week saw two 6-0 teams in conference battle it out for 1st place bragging rights as the end of the first half of the season came to a close. Broughton went into Wakefield as the underdogs in a highly anticipated match up that brought out the fans for both teams (although, I do believe Broughton's were louder)!  After dropping a nervous first set 17-25, Broughton found their groove and began playing the type of never quit volleyball they know how to play!  They captured the second set 25-23 and then dropped another closely contested set, 23-25, with some amazing kills, digs and aces by both teams.  Coach Traci Smith challenged the girls to never give up and keep fighting.  The girls did exactly that and won the last two sets, 25-21 and 15-11, finishing with an on court celebration that led to a mini pile up!  Broughton finished the match with a whopping 51 kills, 18 aces and 66 digs.  They showed a never die attitude and prevailed over an extremely talented Wakefield team.  (see Raleigh N&O write up and pics in links below).

The other match up of the week had Broughton start the second half of the seasontraveling to face Enloe HS.  They won that match 3-1.  The Lady Caps took the first set easily 25-10, but fell in the second 18-25 after Enloe picked up their game.  Broughton came right back and finished off the match 25-10 and 25-14. The Lady Caps had 50 kills, 12 aces and 45 digs in that match up.

The Broughton Varsity Volleyball team is 8-0 in conference and 12-1-1 overall. MaxPreps.com has Broughton Volleyball ranked 5th in the state in the 4A standings and 162nd in the National rankings, moving up 92 spots from last week!

Next week brings a flurry of home matches where the Lady Caps will play 3 consecutive matches at Holliday Gym Tuesday, September 24 - Thursday, September 26.  Please come out and support your talented Lady Caps and enjoy some pretty awesome volleyball as well!
