Soccer: Strong Start Seals Win Over Millbrook

An aggressive Broughton team overwhelmed Millbrook in the first half and then held on in the second half for a 3-0 road win Wednesday night that vaults the Caps into a tie for third in the Cap 8 conference race.

The Caps' Matt Brickhouse got the scoring started midway through the first half when he took a pass from Rosendo Sierra-Flores and slid the ball past the Millbrook keeper. Just two minutes later, Brickhouse scored again when he finished off a shot by Ike Drooz that the Millbrook keeper couldn't handle.

Broughton keeper Trey Morton kept Millbrook off the scoreboard when he made a save on a Millbrook shot from just inside the box with about nine minutes to go in the half.

The Caps' Daniel Wiggins helped put Broughton up 3-0 with just four minutes to go in the half when he stole the ball from a Millbrook defender and passed to Drooz, who put the ball in the back of the net.

Millbrook was the aggressor for much of the second half, forcing Broughton keeper Frankie Stallings to make several saves to preserve the shutout. Brickhouse just missed on a couple of chances to earn a hat trick, but Broughton held on for its sixth win in its last seven games.

Earlier, the junior varsity team lost 1-3. Sheenaymu "C" Gay scored for Broughton.

The Caps return home on Monday night for an important game against Sanderson. Come out and cheer the team on to a strong finish to the regular season. Go Caps!
