On a cold February evening, the Broughton women's soccer team traveled to Athens Drive for its season opener and after 80 minutes of soccer walked off the pitch with a 3-1 victory. The game started off fairly even with neither side creating many scoring opportunities. In the 27th minute, the Jaguars went ahead 1-0 when a Daria Draovitch (#5) free kick deflected off the Caps' wall and into the back of the net just out of the reach of goalkeeper Allie Cutler. A nice gift from the Caps to Draovitch who was celebrating her 16th birthday! Athens Drive's lead held through halftime.
Broughton came out determined in the second half and within five minutes got the equalizer when, after an Allison Gupton throw-in, Emma Willard made a short pass from her position near the goal post to Kelly Ann Evans who slotted in the goal. Five minutes later, Sarah Grace Lasso netted the game winner when she made a run down the center of the field, took a pass from Magen Colgan, drew the Jaguar keeper out and took a low shot for the goal. The Caps had to hunker down and withstand a furious rally by Athens Drive before Emma Willard opened her account for the 2014 season when she snatched Broughton's third goal of the night from the non-conference opponent with just seconds remaining. The Caps return to action on Monday, March 3, when they travel to Angier, yes, Angier, for a match at Harnett Central with JV kick-off at 4:30 and varsity at 6:30.

Lady Caps Hoops Undefeated with 3 to Play
At 11-0 in the CAP-8 (17-2 overall) our Lady Caps varsity basketball team is in the driver’s seat for a conference championship. However, 3 tough games remain including trips to Enloe and Millbrook this week (Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:30pm, weather permitting). Our girls won against both at home, but the games were close the first time through.
Please come out and support the Lady Caps as they push for a championship. They play a fast-paced, exciting style of basketball. They are one of the top scoring teams in the region, averaging 61 points per game!
Lastly, don’t forget that Friday night is Senior Night. Come show your support for our dedicated Seniors!

Regional Swimming Results
Broughton swimmers performed really well at the NC Eastern Regional swimming championships yesterday. Colter
Carman looked like Michael Phelps churning through the water during his 500

someone broke his finger during warmups, cut 3 seconds off his 500.
Will Close mounted the podium to receive his bronze medal for the 100
fly. Crandall Close cut 4.5 seconds off his IM. The girls' 200 free relay of
Adaira Brewer, Genna Brewer, Carson Harvey, and Caroline Willis, took 8th and qualified for
States. Almost everyone swam best times at this meet. Great job CAPS!
