I'm excited to let you know that for the first time Broughton High School is going to have a girls only basketball camp! We have to begin somewhere, so since this is our first time, it's only going to be a one-day "camp" on Saturday, July 12 from 9am until 3pm at Holliday gym. The camp will be for any girl in 3rd grade through 8th.
The other great news is that we're going to make this a free event! We'll limit it to no more than 50 participants, first-come, first-serve. Parents need to email me,
brad@infocusjobs.com, or my wife,
Sims.McCorkle@YMCATriangle.org, if they are interested. Please spread the word to anyone you know that might want to send their daughter...especially if they're in a Broughton district ;)
The goals of the camp are:
- Have fun.
- Teach the girls the most basic fundamentals of basketball.
- Encourage youth participation in girls basketball.
With regards to the 3rd goal, nationally and locally there has been a drop off in participation in girls basketball, as other sports such as soccer surge. Some local teams, even in our own conference, have not fielded JV squads in the last few years due to limited numbers. We want to encourage continued participation in this wonderful TEAM sport and ensure that it remains a GROWING part of our athletics program at BHS, as well as all schools in our region.
Click here for an article about the decline in girls' high school basketball. Let's change this trend!
Lastly, we need as many of our current and former players as possible to join us that day to help! Please speak to your daughter about this opportunity. If they are a current BHS student, we can arrange community service hours for their participation.
Thanks!
