The Caps were on the attack from the game's outset, and got on the scoreboard first when Mohamud scored his first goal off a pass from junior Ike Drooz about 9 minutes into the first half.
Heritage responded quickly, scoring off the ensuing kick-off to even the score at 1-1.
But Broughton took control of the game after that, responding within a few minutes with a second goal by Mohamud. He took a pass from senior Matt Brickhouse and chipped it past the charging Heritage keeper to make the score 2-1 at halftime. (Another potential Broughton goal in the first half, off a corner kick, was waived off after the referee ruled that the Caps had interfered with the keeper.)

The Caps scored again about 12 minutes later when Brickhouse finished off a brilliant series of back-and-forth passes with senior Chris Vlahoplus to make the score 4-1.
Heritage threatened to get back into the game at one point, forcing Broughton keeper Frankie Stallings to make back-to-back saves by punching away on-target shots by the Huskies.
But then senior David Winter added to Broughton's total with a shot into the far post off a pass from junior Niko Hacklaender to make the score 5-1. Heritage scored late in the game to make the final score 5-2.
The Caps finished the season 12-1-1 in conference play to win the Cap 8 title. Their overall record of 15-1-2 will earn them a high seed in the upcoming state playoffs, which begin next week.
Earlier, Broughton's junior varsity team suffered a tough 0-1 loss to end their season. But it was a successful season for the junior varsity, which finished with a conference record of 7-2-4.
