Laney came out a bit more aggressively in the second half, but Broughton held its own for the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the defense made the mistake of giving midfielder David Dailey, easily the most talented player on the pitch, too much space, and he buried a driving 25 yard shot into the far upper netting past Broughton keeper, Clay Oxford. Ten minutes later, 6 foot 3 inch Tristan Nelson soared above the Caps' defenders to head in a corner kick to put the Bucs up 2-0. The Caps gave the home team a bit of a scare when Grant Tyler's shot was barely parried over the cross bar by the Laney keep.
And so ends a fantastic season. The Caps admirably defended their Eastern Region championship, scrappily fighting for every goal and tenaciously defending throughout. The team did what every coach dreams of: getting better each week throughout the season.
