The 2016 Broughton Men’s Lacrosse team, led by first year coach Michael Raskevitz, finished their regular season on Friday night at home against Enloe. The team finished on top in the Cap 8 conference with what is thought to be the first undefeated regular season in school history with a perfect 17-0 record. The season included two wins over conference rival Leesville Road and non-conference wins against East Chapel Hill and Green Hope. The team finished ranked #5 in the state by Laxpower.com. The win against Green Hope featured a back and forth game with the Caps coming back from three goals down. The game was broadcast on Time Warner Cable’s sports channel. The win against Leesville Road on April 25th was a barn burner. The Broughton boys were down 10-6 in the fourth quarter and finished the game with six straight goals to pull out a 12-10 victory.

The team was led by a multitude of players at every position. The attack position was anchored by senior Mitch Snyder, freshman Van Parker and sophomore Nick Cattano. Senior captain and faceoff specialist Austin Bell led the midfielders along with fellow seniors Jack Moody and Butler Bennett, and juniors William Rice, David Liggett, Wells Barefoot, and faceoff man Sam Stein. Freshmen Ben and Jack Lee contributed from the defensive midfield position. The stingy defense was manned by senior captain Joseph Winstead and sophomore goalie Parrish Hinton, along with sophomore defensemen Edward Huffstetler and Lane Tourtellot. Sophomore Davis Willard had a stellar season at long stick midfield.

Broughton finished second in the area in scoring per game and sixth in goals allowed per game. Mitch Snyder, Van Parker, William Rice, Austin Bell and Nick Cattano all finished as top scorers for the area.

After receiving a first round bye, the team will play Holly Springs High School at Broughton this Friday in the second round of the playoffs.  Come out and support the Caps!
