Broughton (9-0, 4-0) downed visiting Wake Forest (3-9, 1-3) 25-9, 25-12, 25-6 last night in Raleigh. The Caps jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the match behind seven straight service points from Jade Demps and three consecutive kills from Kalee Vanderhorst made it 14-4. Alden Willis' ace pushed the Capitals ahead 20-6 and a service error by the Cougars ended the set. The second frame saw Wake Forest take a 5-4 lead before Grace Youngblood's kill tied things up at 5-5. A block by Parrish and Claire Sawyer and another ace from Willis swelled the Caps' advantage to 15-8. Kills from Demps and Youngblood and an ace by Sawyer pushed the score to 18-9. An ace from Sarah Brooks made it 20-9 and a Wake Forest hitting error gave the hosts a 2-games-to-0 lead. Another 7-point service run by Jade Demps gave the Caps a 9-2 lead to open the third stanza. An 11-point service streak by Holli Smith that featured 3 aces gave Broughton a 21-3 lead and another kill from Demps ended the match.
Kalee Vanderhorst paced an efficient Broughton effort with 12 kills (.706), 3 blocks and 7 digs and Jade Demps (.375) and Nan Parrish (.438) each collected 9 kills. Grace Youngblood chipped in 8 kills (.636) and Peyton Kendall added 4 kills (.429). Parrish also tallied 3 blocks and Demps pounded out a team-high 7 aces. Claire Sawyer posted 33 assists, 5 digs and 2 aces and Holli Smith recorded 4 aces and 4 digs. Alden Willis collected 6 digs and 2 aces and Amber Russell scooped up 3 digs and had a team-high 2.75 serve receive average (on a 3.0 scale).
The Capitals travel to Leesville Road (8-2, 3-1) on Thursday (4:30/5:30).
